Where are Sally and Jen? October is Christmas for booksellers! Jen and Sally will be at our annual trade show, hobnobbing with authors, learning about new books, networking with colleagues, attending educational seminars, and touring bookstores in the Twin Cities. Jen will have a significant leadership role at the trade show, and will assume the presidency of the board of MIBA, our regional trade organization. The store will be open while we’re gone. We expect to return rejuvenated on October 8, with lots of signed books to add to our inventory! |

Our fall book retreat will be October 28 to 29! The theme is “Nurturing Women’s Friendships.” We’ll be discussing The Trouble with Jellyfish, My Brilliant Friend, and Let’s Take the Long Way Home. The event is full, but we do have a waiting list. Contact us if you’d like to be added to the waiting list or if you’d like information about future retreats. |

Before Morning A picture book by Joyce Sidman Illustrated by Beth Krommes There are planes to fly and buses to catch, but a small child wishes for a different sort of day in this striking picture book. When clouds gather and heavy flakes begin to fall, her wish comes true. As a too-busy world falls silent, a family revels in the freedom and peace of a snow day. In a spare text that reads as pure song and illustrations of astonishingly beautiful scratchboard art, Sidman and Krommes remind us that sometimes, if spoken from the heart, wishes really can come true. |
