One of my new favorite children’s picture books is The Curvy Tree: A Tale from the Land of Stories by Chris Colfer, Illustrations by Brandon Dorman. A young girl runs into the forest, upset because she’s the target of teasing. She’s different and has no friends. As she cries onto a tree, the tree begins to talk to her. The tree is unusual itself because it’s curvy and different from the other trees in the forest. The tree tells the girl about its own hard times growing up and the revelation that saved it and made life better. This is a children’s book but one that we should all read.
