Illustration from holiday catalog

Our tradition for the December newsletter is to ask members of our staff which books
from our holiday catalog they’d like to give and to receive.

The Bletchley Riddle
Rita Septys and Steve Sheinkin

I'd like to give The Bletchley Riddle—a fabulous historical novel that appeals to both kids (middle school+) and adults.

In Praise of Mystery
Ada Limón, illustrated by Peter Sís

This is amazing and the story behind it is just as good (and it's one of those picture books that's for everyone, not just the kids)

A book I'd like to give:

We Miss You, George Floyd
Shannon Gibney

I grew up in Minneapolis, just six blocks from where George Floyd was murdered. This children’s book grapples with that event, as well as offering “healing and inspiration for the strength and solidarity we need to build a more peaceful and just future.”

Books I'd like to give:

The Littlest Yak
Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley

This children's story is about the importance and meaning of home and family. Its message would be enjoyed by the parents and young children that I know.

The Yellow Bus
Loren Long

The Yellow Bus starts out driving kids to school. As time goes on, the bus begins to deteriorate. While its purpose changes, the Yellow Bus is always important and useful in its own way. It is a heartwarming story with appealing illustrations.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hot Mess

Hot Mess has been described as the funniest Wimpy Kid book yet. I know some young readers who are sure to enjoy it.

Blood at the Root
LaDarrion Williams

Any book set in a magical school immediately piques my interest and this one featuring a runaway Black teen sounds particularly intriguing.

The Bletchley Riddle
Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinkin

Historial fiction fans are in for a treat whenever Sepetys writes a new book. I have loved every book she has written and I’m sure this will be no exception.
