We’re excited about the books in this year’s holiday catalog! Instead of our usual reviews, everyone has shared some books from the catalog they’d like to give and some they’d like to receive for the holidays. Recommendations of books for children and young adults are in Youth Yak. |

Books I'd like to give:
My Mighty Journey
John Coy, illustrated by Gaylord Schanilec
I first saw this book at our trade show last fall and instantly fell in love with it! I love the size of the book (tall!), the amazing illustrations, and the text. I even like the fun fonts throughout the book, and I love the metamorphosis that occurs.

A book I'd like to give:
The Complete Baking Book for Young Chefs
America’s Test Kitchen
Some of my favorite memories from raising our children took place in the kitchen. Other youngsters in our family also enjoy cooking and baking, and this will be a great resource for them. Perhaps I’ll even get some samples!

A book I'd like to receive:
My Footprints
Bao Phi, illustrated by Basia Tran
This beautiful picture book is also ambitious. Bao Phi (A Different Pond) includes bullying, immigration, being raised by a same gender couple, and the power of the imagination and of family. It’s would be a wonderful addition to my collection of picture books.

Books I'd like to give:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
J.K. Rowling, illustrated by Jim Kay
Goblet of Fire is my favorite Harry Potter book. I want to spend time with these beautiful illustrations, and if I give it to one of the Harry Potter fans in my family I’ll be able to pore over it before I wrap it up. |

|
Angelina Ballerina
Katharine Holabird, illustrated by Helen Craig
I remember my daughter when she was little, dancing around the house after seeing The Nutcracker. Christmas is the perfect season for giving a child a book about a ballerina. |

A book I'd like to receive:
The Little Winter Book of Gnomes
Kirsten Sevig
I am totally charmed by the illustrations from this book that are animated in the online catalog. I have a small collection of children’s Christmas books, and I’d like to add this book to it.

Books I'd like to give:
White Bird: A Wonder Story
R.J. Palacio
This book is a graphic novel. Remember Julien, the bully in Wonder? Readers will see him in a new light as they hear the story of his grandmother and are inspired by White Bird’s message of goodness in the face of evil. |

|
|
The Kid’s Book of Paper Love
Irene Smit and Astrid van der Hulst
The perfect book for the kid who loves projects and crafts! Beautiful paper and pull-out goodies will make this a go-to book during snowy afternoons. |
|
|
|
|
Hush Hush, Forest
Mary Casanova, illustrated by Nick Wroblewski
This beautiful book, a companion to Wake Up, Island, is a staff favorite. In words and pictures, it shows the forest and its inhabitants preparing for winter. |
