Accepting Used Books Again!
After a hiatus during December, we are once again accepting used books! We’re most interested in recent paperbacks, particularly fiction and mystery, and in books for children and youth.
Books must be in good to excellent condition (no cracks in the spine, torn or bent pages, writing inside, or smell of cigarettes or mold.)

January is National Puzzle Month!
If you’re like a lot of people, winter is the time when you hole up and work jigsaw puzzles while the snow flies. In response, January 29 was named National Puzzle Day. Any puzzler knows one day is way too short a time, so it’s been expanded to the whole month.
If you need a new puzzle or two, stop in and check out our stock!

Dates set for Fall Retreats

Early spring weather in Minnesota is so unpredictable! Will it rain? snow? will the driveway be frozen or muddy?
We like to side-step all the weather unknowns and schedule a day inside, talking about books.
Whether you retreat with us every year or are ready to take the plunge, join us for a fun get away!
Our theme is "Who Am I, Really?” and we’ll each have read the same two books ahead of time.
One book is The Hidden Life of Cecily Larson by Ellen Baker. It will be available in paperback on February 25, 2025. The title of the second book will be announced soon.
The cost of the retreat is $50, plus books.
We’ll be at Northern Pines Retreat Center, just north of town at 20033 County 1, Park Rapids, Minnesota 56470.

of women and eating food someone else has prepared, all at a leisurely pace. Registration will open at a later date.
Our theme will be “What IS It About Sisters?” and we’ll all read these books ahead of time.

In the French Kitchen with Kids
Mardi Michels
Welcome back to Cookbook Corner!
I often do receiving at the store, which means I get to look at incoming books before anyone else. The other day I came across this little gem.
It’s a cute cookbook with many great French recipes. It's not all desserts and definitely not just for kids. It contains recipes perfect for that late Christmas or New Years dinner party you are throwing or when you’re simply having guests over.
In last month’s newsletter, we each chose three books we wanted to receive and three we would like to give. This cookbook is one I’d put in both categories. It has recipes from green bean almondine to creme brulee to crepes and offers an easy-to-do classic French menu. I'm excited about this book!
