GIve the Gift of Books: Shop Our Holiday Catalog

Our 2024 holiday catalog is arriving!

Our holiday catalog is packed with gift ideas for readers of all ages, covering many genres. Many of the books are already in the store, and more are on the way. This year there are three ways to get a holiday catalog. We have copies in the store, and they have been mailed to households in the Park Rapids area (scheduled to arrive between November 1 and 5.) The digital catalog can be downloaded here.

Be sure to use the coupon on the back of the catalog—15% off a $100 purchase through January 31, 2024. The purchase can be any books, not just those in the catalog. (May not be combined with other offers.)

As always, we offer personal shopping, delivery within Part Rapids, and complimentary gift wrapping.

And don’t forget about giving digital audio books from Libro.fm!

    Nature’s Writers

A photographic celebration of the landscapes that have influenced some of America’s most important nature writers—from John Muir to Terry Tempest Williams to Barbara Kingsolver.

Featuring more than 40 of America’s most important writers, the content is as far-reaching as America itself: from sea to shining sea, forest to prairie, and mountain to coastline. Accompanying each gallery of stunning photography is a selected excerpt by the writer about their land. With the increasingly noticeable effects of climate change, the significance of these writers—and their personal connections to the environment—is even more timely.

This unique and compelling story of the land and how it has inspired some of our greatest poets and authors will make a wonderful gift for budding environmentalists, students of nature writing, or anyone interested in conservation.

    The Conference of the Birds

    In Praise of Mystery
    Ada Limón and Peter Sis

book coverA favorite book of both my mom and me is The Conference of the Birds, but not just any edition— the one illustrated by Peter Sis. We now have a new illustrated-by-Peter-Sis book to add to our list of favorites: In Praise of Mystery by poet laureate Ada Limon and illustrated by Peter Sis. This is in the form of a picture book, but don’t let its format fool you into thinking this is a for-children-only book. Ada Limon was commissioned to write the poem “In Praise of Mystery” to go beyond Earth. As she explains in the Author’s Note at the end of the book: “The poem In Praise of Mystery was written to make a journey beyond our planet. Engraved on NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft, it will travel 1.8 billion miles from Earth to Jupiter’s second moon, called Europa.”

Read the poem and hear the poet read it herself.

To see the illustrations created by Peter Sis to accompany Limón’s poem, head down to Beagle and Wolf and we’ll hook you up.

P.S. Did you know that Milkweed (one of the dynamite publishers of oh-so-good poetry) has a poetry playlist on libro.fm??  You can check it out here. When you click the link, you’ll see a pile of poetry books and the top book happens to be……. You Are Here by Ada Limón.
