Ann		Little Loon Finds His Voice Yvonne Peterson, illustrated by Regina Shklovsky Little Loon can't wait to have a long, strong call like his Papa's. He practices his call daily as he swims with Mama. When his Papa calls, Little Loon tries to answer. When danger threatens, he calls out. Throughout the summer, Little Loon practices. His voice becomes louder, but still not like his Papa's. Finally, one day in early fall, Little Loon's voice echoes across the water. This endearing story with its lovely illustrations is sure to be a favorite of young children.



Jen		Packing for Mars for Kids Mary Roach Whoever thought that Mary Roach's funny and quirky take on science would appeal to kids was exactly right. Packing For Mars for Kids, the young readers edition of Packing For Mars is spot-on. Not only is space REALLY interesting to certain kids, but the details of things like going to the bathroom, eating, vomiting, and all things gross in space is especially appealing. This is one of the best young readers adaptations I've read—the chapters are short, concise, and readable without sounding condescending. Also included are a number of photographs and quotes from some very famous astronauts. Note: this book will be released April 5.



Sally		Badger is Bored Moritz Petz, illustrated by Amelie Jackowski What parent doesn’t dread hearing “I’m bored! There’s nothing to do?” One day, Badger is bored. One by one, his friends stop by. They’re all bored too, and no one can think of anything to do—until Mouse stops by wearing a patch. That sparks creativity in the group, and they spend the afternoon having one adventure after another—with plans for the following day, too. There’s not an adult in sight, directing their play. And do linger over the great illustrations!
		Mud! Annie Bailey, illustrated by Jen Corace Years ago, Bob and I took our three grandchildren to visit a maple syruping operation. They got to see, touch, and taste all sorts of cool stuff. The part they liked the best? When our vehicle got stuck in the mud! Mud season is just about here, and Mud! Is a great book celebrating the fun of playing in it. Follow a brother and sister as they jump in with both feet! The rhyming text, full of word play, is fun as well. And these kids even turn clean up into a good time!
