One Winter Up North
John Owens
Once again, John Owens treats readers to a beautiful wordless picture book featuring a family's trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. His previous book, One Summer Up North, followed a family as they trudged over the portages and paddled the lakes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. This time the family bundles up and sets out through the snowy woods and across the frozen lakes on snowshoes. Winter in the BWCA is quiet, but do not let that fool you. A lot is going on! You may hear birds singing or if you're lucky, the faraway call of wolves. Deer are browsing along the edges of the lakes. The family spends their days snowshoeing and enjoying the wintry wilderness. At night they crawl into sleeping bags in their cozy tent. Picture books offer opportunities for adults and children to share observations and create their own stories as they explore a book together. The beautiful illustrations in One Winter Up North invite readers of all ages to observe and imagine their own winter adventure. |
