Books I'd like to receive:
Tending the Valley: A Prairie Restoration Odyssey
Alice D’Alessio
I enjoy both spending time in nature and reading memoirs. This account of a couple striving to reestablish prairie in Wisconsin’s Driftless Area, appeals to both of these interests. |

|
|
The Wolf’s Trail: An Ojibwe Story Told by Wolves
Thomas Peacock
This book was praised by the Star Tribune as a “quiet masterpiece” and an opportunity for those who aren’t Ojibwe to learn more about their culture. I am intrigued by the idea of the story being told by wolves and believe that the book would provide a window into Native American culture.

Books I'd like to receive:
When the Light of the World Was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through
Joy Harjo, editor, with Leanne Howe & Jennifer Elise Forester
I watched a virtual event with Joy Harjo and two other authors included in this anthology. I don’t read poetry very often, but these poems by native Americans reached me. The book has 160 poets representing nearly 100 first nations. The book is organized geographically, and then chronologically within each area. It traces how America has evolved for the people who were here first. Joy Harjo is the US Poet Laureate, for the third time.
The video above is from the American Writers Museum in Chicago. You can get on their email list to learn about future virtual events.
