book

The Scorch Trials
by James Dashner

This is the second book of the Maze Runner trilogy, an exciting sequel with the same main characters facing new obstacles in the second phase of WICKED’s experiments to supposedly learn how to save the human race. Dashner does a great job incorporating betrayal as a key element.

Horton and the Kwuggerbug and More Lost Stories
by Dr. Seuss

This is a collection of four stories originally published in the 1950s in Redbook magazine. It features the following beloved characters: Horton, Marco from Mulberry Street and McElligot’s Pool, Office Pat, and a Grinch-figure. If you or a loved one collects Dr. Seuss, you need to add this to your/their bookshelf!

Confessions: The Paris Mysteries
by James Patterson

This third installment of the series cannot be read out of the order, it is imperative that you read the first two books. The third book kept me just as riveted as the first two books with the same mysterious thriller qualities. Whereas the first two books were murder mysteries, the third book really unravels the family’s secretive past.

Magic Tree House Super Edition #1:
Danger in the Darkest Hour

by Mary Pope Osborne

I really loved this series as a younger kid and this book was just as enjoyable. The Super Edition is longer (183 pages) and gives more historical information about World War II. In this adventure story, Jack and Annie travel to France right before D-Day.

If I Stay
by Gayle Forman

This thought-provoking book about choosing between life and death would be a fabulous choice for many book groups—adult, teen, church/religious, youth group. My mom and I watched the movie after finishing the book and the movie was fairly true to the book. I am definitely planning to read the sequel Where She Went and other books by this author.
