Jen is reading two very different books for young readers this month. The first is a paranormal/horror young adult novel called Absent by Katie Williams. The protagonist (do paranormal/horror YA novels have protagonists?) is Paige, a dead 17-year-old. She is stuck at the place of her death—school, accompanied by two other teen ghosts who died on the property. Even after death, there are teen problems to attend. I think this book will have great appeal to teen readers.
The second is Exclamation Mark, a picture book with an exciting tale of self-discovery! In this bold and highly visual book, an emphatic but misplaced exclamation point learns that being different can be very exciting! It’s a children’s book which would also make a great graduation gift!
Cornelia Funke, one of Jen’s favorite YA authors, has a new book out—Fearless. In this book, Jacob Reckless returns once again to the Mirrorworld, which is filled with profound characters, extraordinary creatures, and epic life-or-death treasure hunts that could only come from the mind of the master storyteller of our generation, Cornelia Funke.
