Catching Fire
by Suzanne Collins
The second book of the Hunger Games trilogy is finally out in paperback! Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. They should be happy, but the victory was won by defying of the Capitol and its harsh rule. The Capitol wants revenge, and rumors of rebellion are starting to spread. The Hunger Games books offer an opportunity for parents and adult friends to explore important issues with young adult readers.
The Lost (and Found) Balloon
by Celeste Jenkins
We have a new picture book in stock that Jen really likes. The Lost (and Found) Balloon is the story of a balloon's journey. The text is sparse (good for short-attention span children) and the rhymes WORK, meaning they are not forced or awkward. I also like the illustrations in this book—they are simple, mostly black and white line drawings splashed with watercolor. The conclusion of the journey is charming. I'm anxious to share it with one of our young visitors!
